Annual events

JANUARY

Sagicho

Sagicho(alias: Dondoyaki) is the annual New Year’s event, in which people burn the ornaments of the sacred pine branches, straw-ropes and charms for New Year’s decoration. It is said that mochi cooked on this fire keeps sickness away during the year.

APRIL

Ancient Battlefield Cherry Blossom Festival

During this event, cherry blossoms are lit up, and the refreshment booths and the teaceremony booth are set up in the park. You can enjoy entertainment such as performances by Bonote and Machlockers.

MAY

Children Center Festival

It is the festival for children, held at all of the children centers in town once a year. Children have the opportunity to step onto the ladder truck and participate in other enjoyable activities.

JULY

Tenno Festival

It is a summer night festival, decorated with the red lanterns at the Tadosha shrine. Animated traditional drum beats and the historic mountain carts add to the festival atmosphere.

International Music Festival

It is held every July as a part of the international exchange program. Chorus or dancing groups from various countries appear on stage, and children from our town sing songs.

AUGUST

Fireworks Display During a Cool Summer Night

It is final summer event. About 1,800 shots of fireworks splendidly color the night sky. Many refreshment booths and some attractive entertainment corners for children are crowded with a lot of viewers.

OCTOBER

Bonote

Bonote is a choreographed martial art, which originated from the traditional entertainment of farmers. It is officially recognized as a prefectural intangible property, and you can enjoy breathtaking performances in Nagakute.

Omanto

To show their appreciation for rich harvests, farmers dedicate their horses to the neighboring shrines, while a company of match-lockers and stick-fighters protect the horses.

NOVEMBER

Town Festival

This festival calls for open participation from all residents. This fife and drum band parade, recycling markets and various workshops are held around the Town Office.

DECEMBER

NAGAKUTE Cultural Center Festival

This is a festival for visitors of the Cultural Center. Performers of various genres entertain the crowds and interesting exhibits are made available to all.
