Trash Separation and Disposal

 

<Observe the rules to keep the town clean>

Refuse from households should be sorted into “burnable refuse,” “nonburnable refuse,” “recyclable refuse,” Oversize refuse,” and other categories before they are disposed of. This system aims to collect still usable refuse for recycling, hence contributing to reducing the amount of refuse. Be sure to keep to the rules.

 

Be sure to take your refuse out by 8:30 AM on the specified collection day. (The collection service is also available when the specified day falls on national holidays.)

 

1. Burnable refuse (Twice a week)

Put this type of refuse in the town-designated white bags.

The bags are available in supermarkets or convenience stores within the town.

→10 L-sized bags—150 yen / 10 S-sized bags 100 yen / 10 SS-sized bags 80 yen

   (No consumer tax is imposed)

 

○Burnable Refuse

Kitchen garbage / vinyl and rubber products / leather products (bags or shoes) / plastic products except for containers or wrappings / disposal diapers and pet sheets (soiling on disposal diapers should be flushed down a toilet)

 

○How to take out the refuse which can not fit into a town-designated bag

  Twigs (within 10 cm of diameter), futon sleeping mats, and plastic cloth cases

<Burnable items larger than the designated bag should be cut or folded to less than one meter long and bundled with the town-designated bag.>

 

Taking out

Refuse should be placed on the collection route.

Drain fluids from any materials that may leak, like kitchen garbage.

Grass and twigs from households should not be burnt at home. They should be taken out as burnable.

Recyclable papers, plastic bottles, or plastic container wrapping should not be taken out as burnable.

Liquids or powders should not be taken out.

 

2. Plastic containers or wrappings (Twice a week)

Put the plastic containers refuse in the designated (pink colored) bag.

10 bags cost 150 yen (no consumer tax is imposed)

 

○Things categorized as plastic containers or wrappings

  <Please see these material marks  (Some products do not convey this mark)>

   Nets for oranges or onions

  Colored tray, and transparent tray for fruits

  Plastic bottles (if paper label on the bottle is not removable, the bottle should be taken out as burnable.

  Wrapping films for snacks, cigarettes, or cup noodles.

   Egg or tofu packs

   Jelly, pudding, yoghurt cups

  Styrofoam used for packing home appliances

  Plastic lids of bottles or plastic lids of PET bottles

  Vinyl bags

 <Plastic products other than containers (plastic bucket, tooth brush etc.) and plastic containers united with products (CD case etc.) should be categorized as “burnable.”>

 

Taking out

 Refuse should be placed on the collection route.

 Do not stick gummed tape on the designated bag. (The bag will be also recycled together with the contents.)

 Any container or wrapping stained with foods or with strong smell should be categorized as “burnable.”

 The white colored trays used for fresh foods should be put into a collection box placed at supermarkets in the town (Aoki Super Nagakute Store, APITA Nagakute Store, A Co-op Nagakute Store, A Co-op Nagakute-nishi Store, and U Store Nagakute).

 

3. Bottles and Cans (Twice a month)

Bottles

Only bottles used for foods, drinks, or cosmetics 

Juice, beer, vinegar, sake, cosmetics, and so on 

 

Taking out

 1. Remove the lids from bottles.

2. Rinse the bottles with water

 3. Lay the bottles inside YELLOW containers

    <Do not put them in a bag>

 

Cans

 Only cans used for foods or drinks

 Juice, beer, snacks, pet food, and so on

 

Taking out

1. Rinse the cans with water

2. Crush them to save space

3. Place them in GREEN containers.

*Do not put them in a bag.

 

4. Recyclable papers and plastic bottles (Once a month)

Recyclable paper

They are collected even on rainy days.

 

Taking out

 1. Sort into three groups; “Newspapers and advertising leaflets,” “cardboard,” and “magazines and other paper.”

   *Advertising leaflets should be bundled together with newspapers.

 2. Tie them with string crosswise.

   *Do not put them in bags or boxes.

 3. Place them beside the container for plastic bottles.

Only bottles with a mark shown here.

Juice, tea, shochu, soy-sauce, and so on. 

 

Taking out

1. Remove the lids and labels from bottles

2. Rinse the bottles with water.

3. Crush them to save space.

4. Place them in GREEN containers.

   <Do not put them in bags.>

 

5. Old garments and cloth (Once a month)

 <On rainy days, the collection is postponed till the next month.>

 

 Items to be collected

  Garments

 

 Taking out

 Items should be washed clean.

 Items should be dried.

 Put them in any plastic bag.

 Place the bag next to recyclable papers.

  <In the event that it starts raining after items are taken out, we are responsible for their collection.>

 

6. Nonburnable refuse (Once a month)

  Items included in this category

 Videos, radio cassette players, irons, hardware, China, glass, fluorescent tubes (Tubes should be put in cases or bags), metal items (cameras, clocks, umbrellas, hangers, and so on)

 

 Taking out

 Place them in BLUE containers.

 Broken glass and sharp edged tools must be put in a sturdy bag or in a box, and labeled as such.

 Aerosol cans and gas containers should be emptied and pierced in a fire free place before disposal.

 <Bottles and cans are a precious recyclable resource. Do not take them out mixed in with

nonburnable refuse.>

 

7. Oversize refuse (Reservation should be made on the phone)

1. Reservation on the phone

  Inform your address, name, phone number, and the kinds of oversized refuse (up to three items.)

     Tel: 0561-63-1111 (The Environmental Affairs Section, refuse management section)

 <Service time   8:30 AM --- 5:15 PM (except for Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and the end and the beginning of the year.>

 

2.Confirming the day and the place of collection

   Notify the date of the collection and place (the place should be accessible by truck).

 

3.Take out the garbage by 8:30 in the morning.

   Like the figure below, a piece of paper stating “Oversize refuse -------(name)” should be attached to the refuse.

   <The refuse is collected between 8:30 am and 4:00 p.m. (You do not have to stay there.)>

 

○Items included in this category

 Blankets, furniture (chest, bed, desk, sofa, etc.), bike, fan heater, stove (oil should be extracted), kitchen tools (gas table, microwave oven, oven, etc.), sports equipment (set of golf clubs, skis, etc.), baby carriage, suit case, washing-line pole, drying frame, metal garment case

 

○Please help reuse

 At Nagakute Eco House, reusable furniture or bikes are distributed to people who want them.

 At the time of reservation for oversize refuse collection, we ask you if it is possible to offer the product. Your cooperation will be highly appreciated.

 

8. Refuse not handled by the town

○Items handles by experts

Propane gas cylinder, car tires, car battery, fire extinguisher, paints, medicine, concrete blocks, motorbikes, etc. (Inquire at the store where you purchased these products.)

 

○Business related refuse

 For refuse from stores, restaurants, offices, factories, and so on, contact a collection company approved by the town.

 

○4 items covered by the home appliance recycling law

 TV sets, air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines are not collected as they are covered by the Home Appliance Recycling Law. Please contact retailers for collection. You will be charged for recycling. Please note that it is forbidden by law to dispose of these products without permission.

 

○Personal computers for home use

 Personal computers are not collected as they are covered by the “Law for Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources.” Please contact the manufacturers for collection and recycling.

 

○Refuse in large volume

Refuse or discarded lumber in large volume, when moving house, for example, should not be placed at collection sites. Please contact the Environment Section for places you can bring them or companies that take them.
