Marriage
In Japan, the following procedures and submissions are necessary in order to be considered legally married. Depending on the citizenship of the person being married, the items for submission will differ. For further information, contact the Residence Department in your local government office.

All the items listed in (1), and copy of the family register (in the event that the local government office to which the documents are being submitted is not Nagakute Town) |
*In the event that a non-Japanese woman who is getting married already has a foreign resident registration certificate, she will change the “relationship to householder “or “name of householder” on her certificate at the Foreign Resident Registration. A non-Japanese woman married to a Japanese man may use her husband’s name unofficially.
Childbirth
In order to receive physical examinations and for further inquiries about a newborn child’s citizenship, please check with the Healthcare Section or Resident Section.
1. Mother-child Health Passbook

2. Postnatal procedures
(1)Submit birth report to Resident Section no later than 14 days following the birth of a child.
(2)Obtain passport for the newborn child at relevant embassy or consulate.
(3)Within 30 days of the birth, parent will apply for resident status and period of stay for the newborn child at the immigration bureau.
(4)Within 60 days of the birth, the parent will apply for foreign resident registration for the newborn child.
*Is there a deadline for naming the child?
àA name for the child must be determined no later than 14 days after the birth because it must be recorded in the birth report.
*What is the Mother-child Health Passbook?
àIt is a small notebook in which the progress of the pregnancy and the postnatal period including birth method, the physical condition of the mother and the physical condition and development of the newborn child, as well as vaccinations are recorded.
